08/31/2010 - Tulsa, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Arena Football League commissioner Jerry B. Kurz had his contract extended Tuesday and will return for the 2011 season.
"I couldn't be more pleased to continue to lead the resurgence of the Arena Football League," Kurz said. "I have watched the AFL flourish since its inception, and this is a great time for the Arena Football League. I am honored to have the support of the ownership group."
Kurz has been involved with Arena Football for 24 years, including five seasons with the af2 league. He also served as the AFL's vice president of international development from 1998-2008.
In 2011, the league will introduce four new franchises, several of which had participated in the former AFL before its folding after the 2008 season.
Included in that quartet will be the Philadelphia Soul, who were the ArenaBowl winners before the league folded. Other franchises will be located in San Jose -- the team which lost to the Soul in that ArenaBowl -- Pittsburgh and Kansas City.
"I am thrilled with these four additional franchises and truly believe they will be a great fit with our revamped business model," Kurz said. "I look forward to the next season of Arena Football and the other exciting growth opportunities we expect to see in the coming months."

Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger Sunday night and had a plate surgically attached to it Monday. "I certainly wouldn't rule it out now," Parcells said, referring to Terrell Owens immediate return. "Maybe five days from now I might, but I wouldn't rule it out now. ... I know we're looking to try to get him moving around pretty good in the next day or so. So we'll see where we are."
Owens did not speak with reporters Wednesday, but said Sunday he'd be out two to four weeks. A return against the Titans would be 13 days after the surgery. The Cowboys were listed as an early -7 1/2 favorite vs. the Tennessee Titans for Week 4 at MySportsbook.com
